Our Sandalwood Tallow Balm is made with natural, free-range, grass-fed, non-GMO beef tallow, organic beeswax, organic olive oil, and sandalwood essential oil. Each of these ingredients has wonderful benefits for your skin!
This balm has a light earthy scent, so it’s perfect for those who may be sensitive to smells, while still keeping all the benefits of the essential oil.
Skin Benefits of Each Ingredient
- Beef Tallow
- Moisturizing and Nourishing: Tallow is rich in fatty acids (like stearic, oleic, and palmitic acids) that mimic the skin’s natural sebum, making it deeply moisturizing and compatible with most skin types. It helps restore the skin’s lipid barrier, locking in moisture.
- Nutrient-Dense: Contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, which support skin repair, elasticity, and protection from environmental damage.
- Anti-Inflammatory: The conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in tallow (especially from grass-fed cows) has anti-inflammatory properties, soothing irritated or dry skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis.
- Non-Comedogenic (for most): Despite being a heavy fat, tallow is surprisingly non-pore-clogging for many, as its composition aligns with human skin lipids.
- Beeswax
- Protective Barrier: Beeswax forms a natural protective layer on the skin, shielding it from environmental stressors (like wind or cold) while locking in moisture without clogging pores.
- Healing Properties: Contains vitamin A, which supports skin cell regeneration and can aid in healing minor cuts, scrapes, or chapped skin.
- Antibacterial and Anti-Inflammatory: Beeswax has natural antimicrobial properties, helping to keep skin clean and reduce inflammation.
- Texture Stabilizer: Beyond skin benefits, it gives the salve its firm, spreadable consistency, ensuring even application.
- Olive Oil
- Hydration and Softening: Rich in oleic acid, olive oil is a potent emollient that softens and hydrates the skin, making it ideal for dry or rough patches.
- Antioxidant-Rich: Contains polyphenols and vitamin E, which combat free radical damage, supporting skin health and potentially reducing signs of aging.
- Anti-Inflammatory: Its compounds, like oleocanthal, have anti-inflammatory effects, which can calm redness or irritation.
- Penetration: Acts as a carrier oil, helping other ingredients (like essential oils) absorb into the skin more effectively.
- Sandalwood Essential Oil
- Anti-Inflammatory: Sandalwood oil, particularly from Santalum album (Indian sandalwood), contains santalols, which have strong anti-inflammatory properties. It can soothe irritated skin, reduce redness, and calm conditions like eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis.
- Antioxidant and Anti-Aging: Rich in antioxidants, sandalwood oil helps combat free radical damage, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, promoting a more youthful complexion.
- Antibacterial and Antiseptic: Its antimicrobial properties help cleanse the skin, making it useful for acne-prone skin or preventing infections in minor cuts and scrapes.
- Moisturizing and Balancing: Sandalwood oil hydrates without clogging pores and can balance oil production, benefiting both dry and oily skin types.
- Skin Brightening: It may help even out skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation or scarring over time, thanks to its regenerative properties.
- Aromatherapy: Its warm, woody scent is calming, reducing stress, which can indirectly benefit skin by lowering stress-related inflammation.
